Meet Lea Doise
WHAT INSPIRES YOUR WORK RIGHT NOW?
I am almost always inspired by nature. I love being outside and painting from life. In nature it could be the effects of the light that inspire me, the colors, the shapes, the textures, there are endless possibilities!
HOW DO YOU KNOW WHEN A PIECE IS FINISHED?
A piece is never finished until it is sold or out of my studio/in a show. I will always play around with it and change it if it’s sitting in my studio because I enjoy the process of a painting’s journey and transformation and I just can’t help myself.
IN ONLY A FEW WORDS, HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE?
Impressionistic and colorful
DID ANYTHING SHIFT OR SURPRISE YOU WHILE CREATING THIS COLLECTION?
Things are always surprising me and that’s my favorite thing about painting.
WHO ARE SOME ARTISTS (PAST OR PRESENT) WHO INFLUENCE OR INSPIRE YOU?
Joe Gyurcsak, Fidelia Bridges, Pierre Bonnard, Berthe Morisot, and many more (honestly it’s always changing, but these are few of my favorites)
WHAT MATERIALS OR TECHNIQUES DO YOU MOST ENJOY USING, AND WHY?
I mostly work in oil and most of my work is created en plein air or created from a plein air study or multiple studies.
STUDIO SOUNDTRACK: SILENCE, MUSIC, OR PODCASTS?
Music!! Everything from Katherine Jenkins, to Taylor Swift, to Lainey Wilson, it just depends on my mood.
COFFEE OR TEA WHILE YOU WORK?
Lots of coffee, sometimes tea, sometimes water, and on occasion diet coke
WHAT’S ONE TOOL OR MATERIAL YOU CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT IN THE STUDIO?
Cobalt Blue – It's my favorite color (except when it gets all over things besides the canvas!)
FINISH THIS SENTENCE: “ART IS…”
everything!! And for me it’s a way of seeing, interpreting, and living within this world.
