Lizzie Dudley

I ended a successful career as a Financial Advisor to raise two children and when they were both off to college, I began a second career as an oil painter. I am a left-brained artist and have the need to finish one painting before starting another. I am obsessed with painting en plein air, as I love the way the colors of nature influence my work. I also paint in my studio from photos and plein air studies, so I can bring the scenes to life in a larger format. I love to travel to France and Italy to gather inspiration for new works. My major strength is the ability to mix the colors that I see with accuracy, and I am greatly influenced by the colors of the Caribbean, the Blue Ridge Mountains, hay fields and any subject matter that is loaded with color.

I have had multiple shows in and around Charlottesville, Virginia – my hometown, and have also participated in group shows. I have mentored with renowned artist Lori Putnam, and I travel frequently for plein air retreats to hone my skills. I have been attending plein air events and competitions, which is such a great way to meet new artists and patrons. I paint primarily impressionistic landscapes and seascapes, and I also work with oils and cold wax to produce semi-abstracts.
