Meet Barbra

WHAT INSPIRES YOUR WORK RIGHT NOW?

Water, stormy skies, clouds, buildings and shapes! I’m inspired to find new audiences for my work so I can keep painting forever!

HOW DO YOU KNOW WHEN A PIECE IS FINISHED?

When I step back and like it and think I might be finished, I’ll leave it on the easel or put on our mantel and live with it for a day. Sometimes, when a painting is in different light, I’ll need to change it up or I might see something new that I want to enhance.

IN ONLY A FEW WORDS, HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE?

I like to paint large with lots of movement and energy using texture, brushes, palette knife and cloth

DID ANYTHING SHIFT OR SURPRISE YOU WHILE CREATING THIS COLLECTION?

That I never run out of new ideas! My style and subjects are still relevant and desired.

WHO ARE SOME ARTISTS (PAST OR PRESENT) WHO INFLUENCE OR INSPIRE YOU?

Maxfield Parrish fantastic skies

Jack Vettriano for movement and figures

Helen Frankenthaler- power and shapes

WHAT MATERIALS OR TECHNIQUES DO YOU MOST ENJOY USING, AND WHY?

I use a texture product, a palette knife, straight edge. I use acrylic and water based oils so that I can work fast.

STUDIO SOUNDTRACK: SILENCE, MUSIC, OR PODCASTS?

Korean dramas 100% (K-Dram all the way) I watch it once to remember the plot then like the visuals and language in background. The movie Oblivion (Tom Cruise) maybe played 100 times

COFFEE OR TEA WHILE YOU WORK?

Coffee with brown sugar in am.

WHAT’S ONE TOOL OR MATERIAL YOU CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT IN THE STUDIO?

I found this tool used to shell nuts when my friend was cleaning out her moms house- It’s the best thing for making scratches in paint!
