Meet Jackie
WHAT INSPIRES YOUR WORK RIGHT NOW?
This is such a vibrant time of year—flowers are in full bloom, beaches are alive with people, and colorful umbrellas dot the shoreline. Nature’s palette is so rich and dynamic right now that I can’t help but be inspired to capture it in my paintings.
Every moment I get to paint feels like a gift—and it’s a privilege I never take for granted.
HOW DO YOU KNOW WHEN A PIECE IS FINISHED?
The hardest thing to know is when a piece is finished. Sometimes the beauty of a work is in the essence of it instead of the details. If you provide too much information to the viewer it can become like a photograph and lose the artist's interpretation of the subject.
IN ONLY A FEW WORDS, HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE?
I aspire to create movement in my brushstrokes while maintaining harmony and joy in my works. The use of color is subjective, and I aspire to not limit myself on its endless possibilities.
DID ANYTHING SHIFT OR SURPRISE YOU WHILE CREATING THIS COLLECTION?
I pushed myself while painting these new pieces in their size and the way I wanted to express the subject. I got lost in the beauty and array of colors while painting Cotton Candy Irises. I can’t wait to paint more of them. I wanted to keep Waiting for Sunbathers fresh and pristine like an early morning beach as it waits for is first visitors.
WHO ARE SOME ARTISTS (PAST OR PRESENT) WHO INFLUENCE OR INSPIRE YOU?
Of course I love the Impressionist artists. I have taken so any memorable workshops in recent years, and I have a long list of favorites. I love the works of Alice Williams who lives and paints in Provence.
WHAT MATERIALS OR TECHNIQUES DO YOU MOST ENJOY USING, AND WHY?
I was a watercolorist for most of my panting career. As I transitioned to oils, I have been told that I have kept the looseness that watercolors achieve. I will also continue to explore the use of the palette knife.
STUDIO SOUNDTRACK: SILENCE, MUSIC, OR PODCASTS?
There is no silence in my studio music and audio books are my go to.
COFFEE OR TEA WHILE YOU WORK?
Early morning coffee or afternoon tea. My goal is not to put my brush in what I am drinking!
WHAT’S ONE TOOL OR MATERIAL YOU CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT IN THE STUDIO?
My glass palettes! Easy to clean and mix paint on. My whole table would be glass if I could.
FINISH THIS SENTENCE: “ART IS…”
the ability to pour out on canvas the beauty that you see in the world.
