Meet Susan Richards

WHAT INSPIRES YOUR WORK RIGHT NOW?

I am inspired most by the world around me, especially places where I experience rest, calm, peace and stillness—usually while traveling on vacation and intentionally recharging away from the busy world.

HOW DO YOU KNOW WHEN A PIECE IS FINISHED?

I know a piece is finished when I feel good about it and want to share it with others.

IN ONLY A FEW WORDS, HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE?

Impressionist coastal and landscape with a tranquil, calming, soothing leaning

WHO ARE SOME ARTISTS (PAST OR PRESENT) WHO INFLUENCE OR INSPRIRE YOU?

Barbara Flowers

WHAT MATERIALS OR TECHNIQUES DO YOU ENJOY USING, AND WHY?

I enjoy using acrylic on canvas or wood. I like acrylic's fast-drying nature because it forces me to quickly complete what I start. Plus, I use a little trick to extend the drying time just enough!

STUDIO SOUNDTRACK?

Depends on the mood. Focused - quiet. Energized - I have an upbeat mix of random music spanning a few decades! Early morning painting—usually accompanied by a family focused podcast to help me grow as a mom and wife.

COFFEE OR TEA WHILE YOU WORK?

Love the idea of coffee but it does not love me so tea!

WHAT'S ONE TOOL OR MATERIAL YOU CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT IN THE STUDIO?

I definitely could not live without a palette knife and a wet palette.
